The Red Mass has been celebrated annually in Sydney since 1931. The first recorded Red Mass was celebrated at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, in 1245. The Red Mass takes its name partly from the scarlet robes worn by the royal judges attending the Mass in 14th century England. In London the tradition began around 1310, during the reign of Edward II. |
