The Hon Terry Sheahan AO
The Hon Terry Sheahan AO will be appointed a Life Member of the St Thomas More Society. Both Terry and his father, William (Billie) Sheahan QC, have been great supporters of the St Thomas More Society.
Terry’s father, Billie Sheahan, was one of the founding members of the St Thomas More Society, attending the very first meeting of the Society in 1945.
Terry Sheahan was educated at St Thomas Beckett Primary School at Lewisham from 1952 until 1954, and Christian Brothers at Lewisham from 1955 to 1963. He graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Laws in 1969. He was an articled clerk, and later solicitor with what was then Roy Turner Jones & Co from 1967 until 1972, and with Elrington & Elrington Solicitors Yass in 1973.
Terry Sheahan was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1973 to 1988. He was the Minister for Housing from 1980 to 1983, Minister for Energy and Finance from 1983 to 1984, Minister for Planning and Environment in 1984, Attorney General from 1984 to 1987, and Minister for Transport from 1987 to 1988.
Terry Sheahan was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1982. He was a consultant from 1988 to 1997 with Cowley Hearne Solicitors, and with Ernst & Young from 1995 to 1997. Terry Sheahan was President of the NSW Branch of the Australia Labor Party from 1989 until 1997.
Terry Sheahan was a judge of the Land and Environment Court from 1997 to 2019, and was the inaugural President of the then new Workers Compensation Commission from 2001 to 2007.
